RAINY DAY BANGERS

Hello all. If like David Tennant and I you are sick and tired of the typical shit english weather ruining what should be 3 months of fun in the sun then fear not. I have some tunes that will deliver the preverbal sunshine straight into your earholes. Think of it as my gift to you. Today is actually quite a nice day so let’s make it a bloody fun day.
As always there are some unbelievable tunes on the horizon and so far 2012 has not failed to disappoint a Chubby Funster like me. Anyway lets ‘ave it large’
Ok so this is pretty unbelievable. The joy of Soundcloud is that by following musicians you like you can tap into what they are listening to and playing out. This little cheeky cropped up and as soon as I saw the name Erkka I knew it was worth a listen. All you have to do is look up the outrageous roster of DJ’s that are signed to French Express to know that every one of their releases is going to be a pearler.
This 1.38 snippet is a tropical delight with a baseline that oozes funk. As with fellow French Expressers, Perseus and Moon Boots, Scandinavian born Erkka is climbing up the ranks with haste. Keeps your eyes peeled for the full release within the coming months.
Before I got into the electronic music malarkey I was heavily into Bloc Party and to be honest I never really went off them. I have liked all 3 of their albums and when they went off the radar for a few years I genuinely did miss them. But guess what. They’re back now and are on the brink of releasing their fourth album cleverly titled ‘Four’. See what they did there?
Now that one of my favourite bands are back I can scour the web for remixes that link my love for Bloc Party with my love for all things Electronic. It’s a match made in heaven. Anyway this remix by RAC of there new single Octopus is right on the money. The unique Kele vocals mixed with a sharp background synth make this remix something to admire. Listen and Love.
Here are the important things you need to know about this song. Human League. Synth. Aeroplane. Remix. Free download. Unbelieveable.
Enjoy.
The last track of today’s blog post is by Proxy. The Russian DJ is known best for his relentless style of filthy, abrasive bangers. His new new offering, Audio 15, follows that same principle. It’s from his debut album which is set for release this Autumn and if this is anything to go by then we’re in for an ear bleeding orgasm. All of his tracks have such a menacing tone and distinctive sound so it’s safe to say that i’m pretty bloody excited about the LP.
Anyway, that’s all for now. Im heading to London for the next two weeks to start my work placement at Mixmag. I’m so excited that my head may explode. If that is the case then it’s been nice knowing you. If not then i’ll be doing a few posts next week. After my placement I’ll be back on the mixes and podcasts so stay tuned Funsters. LOVE YOU x
Midweek Melodies

First of all let’s just get one thing straight. This woman is not a DJ. This woman is a twat.
Right enough of that.
It’s me again!!!!! I hope everyone is well on this fine Wednesday. Things are great my end, I got a 2:1 in my Journalism degree, I start my placement at Mixmag in just under a month and better still there is a wealth of amazing music out there to keep a Funster like me occupied for a while. A big thank you to all those people who have been there along the way and a huge thanks to Grum, Boy 8 Bit and The Giraffe, The Pelly & Us for assisting me in finding out whether electronic music has in fact gone down the preverbal shitter.
ANNYYYWHOOOO its tune time and here are some bangers to give your dancing shoes something to smile about.
First of all lets talk about the FILTHY FRENCH BEHEMOTH that is Gesaffelstein. If you know me well, then you will know that I love the guy. He’s exploded worldwide over the last couple of years and he has a style so distinctively his own, that it’s hard not miss one of his earth shatterers on the dance floor.
So I was roaming the social networking platform, known as The Facebook, this morning and I stumbled upon the cheeky Frenchman posting hints about his upcoming EP. Then an hour later, low and behold, he has posted up two snippets. These are very good snippets. In fact they are so good that I’ve been looping them and dancing around in my underwear simultaneously. Have a gander.
I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard the news that Hot Chip were back on the scene and writing a new album. ‘In Our Heads’ was released about two weeks ago and I have now sessioned it enough to pass a fair judgement on it. Basically it’s unbelievable. It’s every synth fan’s paradise. The inimitable Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard are back with those soothing vocals that guide you through the minefield of noises that are hurling past in the background. The whole album is worth a listen but here are a few stand out tracks to wet your whistle.
The new Justice album left a lot of listeners disgruntled after a lot of wait and not a lot of reward. On first listening, Audio, Video, Disco lacked a lot of the energy that Cross had and it certainly didn’t live up to expectations set. Nevertheless it was a new Justice album and I needed to give a shot. I gave it a lot of time and then went to see it played live in all it’s glory at the 02 Academy Birmingham. I’m not saying I love the album but i’m certainly not saying I hate it. There are some real barnstormers in there, such as there new single Newlands.
With some slick new artwork and some great remixes by some old friends, the Justice boys have released a really solid EP. Without a shadow of a doubt, the award for best remix on the EP goes to DJ Falcon. His outstanding, feel good arrangement of big French synths and cut up vocals make for the perfect dance floor killer.
Oh and wait until the last 30 seconds or so. It’s arguably the best bit!
I was in the old watering hole last week and I bumped into a very good friend who appeared to be very intoxicated. He told me about his love for french house and how good it makes you feel. I agreed with him in every way and have decided to put up one of the best french house tracks remixed by one of the best french house producers. So let’s take a trip down memory lane shall we? Let’s say May 2011.
This one’s for you Butler.
I hope you have all enjoyed today’s menagerie of tracks. I will be back soon with more so don’t despair. Keep your eyes peeled for the Chubby Funster store opening soon. Got some nice little tees to tempt you with. Ciao for now x
Back to Business, CHUBBY STYLE
Well I’m glad that’s all over. I’ve been off the boil recently what with final year work and the sad passing of my macbook, but now i’m back to do what I do best, supply the world with some CHUBBY tunes. Over the past month or two there have been some belters so here’s a little round up of the hottest tracks at the moment and what to look forward to in the coming weeks.
This first track is called Thunder Clap and it’s by Duke Dumont. The name says it all, it quite literally has the most thunderous claps the whole way through the song. At some points the claps are flying left, right and centre. The first drop at about 2:10 changes the song into an absolute driver and you can’t help but give those arms a good old pumping.
This little cheeky is an absolute barnstormer of a remix by Maxxi Soundsytem. It has an irresistible baseline that oozes cool from every orifice. The strong vocals, funky guitar riff and crisp drums means that you will be dancing like Barack in no time. Listen now.
OH MY SWEET LORD IM EXCITED. Ever since I saw that 2manydjs were headlining the NME stage at Reading and Leeds Festival last year I was gutted that I wouldn’t be going. Naturally I was thrilled when the good old boys at the BBC decided to record the whole set and stick it on the internet.
As you would expect the whole set was ridiculous but there was one absolute stand out tune that blew my mind and load simultainiously . The Soulwax remix of Synrise by Goose is an all out banger with a build up that leaves you salivating. It was never released though. UNTIL NOW. It’s being dropped on June 25th so have a listen now and mark your calendars once you regain consciousness.
This next track was literally uploaded to soundcloud about 30 minutes ago and boy, it is hot to trot. Digitalism have created one chunky remix of Funkworm by Stimming. The track has the CHUBBIEST baseline that a Funster could ask for. Big build ups and even bigger drops. Im thinking this track will be BIG.
This is the last track of today’s post but it’s guaranteed to send shivers up your spine, dirty dirty shivers. Whilst my macbook was dying in the corner after a run in with an angry cup of tea, I had to go back to my old Spotify account to satisfy my musical hunger. I stumbled across this Black Strobe remix of Decontrol by The Subs. It was released back in October 2011 so god knows why it slipped my eye but now that this banger has been introduced into my life I can share it with all of you. By the way it’s pretty bloody menacing.
That’s all for now. I’ll be back before you know it with more tracks, podcasts, mixes and some exclusive interviews. Goodbye for Now x
ANIMAL HOUSE

If you live in the Nottingham area then you will have undoubtedly have heard of The Giraffe, The Pelly & Us. If you haven’t then where have you been for the past year? They have hosted two sell out nights which are aptly named, House Arrest. The aim is to deliver you smooth grooves and house music until your heart’s content. With their roster of productions ever increasing, it is fair to say that it won’t be long until they’re hot gossip.
When I was told that I could produce a small radio piece for my university portfolio, I jumped at the chance to chat to the boys from GPAU about their rising profile. I had a little chat with Danny and Tom about the outfit and to find out what they were all about.
I was very pleased with how it turned out so I decided to share it with all the lovely people who are currently looking at this page. Here it is in all its glory…
I hope you all enjoyed that. If you wondered what the groovy track in the background was then your clearly not in the loop. But that’s ok, that’s what I’m here for. The song is called The Big Beat and it’s obviously by The Giraffe, The Pelly and Us. Grab it right now as a free download because let’s face it, you would be silly not to.
That’s all for this time. If you want to hear more about The Giraffe, The Pelly and Us then head to their website below. It has all the things you could ever need. Until next time.

CHUBBY’S FIRST UBER POST
Well hello everybody. As this is my first musical blog post I felt the burning desire to make it an extremely chubby one. My aim, from this day forth, is to give your ears the looking after they truly deserve. The following tracks are a selection of some of the hottest and best records out there at the moment. I do hope they bring you as much joy as they’ve brought me.
Bloody Brilliant Brodinski
Brodinski is a DJ who can do no wrong at the moment. Back in November he set up Bromance Records, who so far have released two blinding EP’s with the main man himself featuring on both. He is forever touring, smashing out perfect mix after perfect mix. More recently he has been on remix duty and the latest is his sublime re-imagining of Sebastien Tellier’s new track, Cochon Ville.
Brodinski has an unparalleled ability to take any song and make it entirely his own and this track is a dark, sinister and acid infused example of that. The build ups use mystical vocals and striking piano chords to set you up for the almighty drop that follows. Turn this up loud and get on it.
Oh, and this little gem can be found on Bromance’s second ep and its by Gucci Vump (Brodinski and Guillaume from The Shoes). Expect this to be played ALLLLLLL SUMMMER LONGG.
Remixing the USA
It goes without saying that French wonderkid, Surkin, had a great 2011. For starters he launched Marble Records with fellow DJ royalty, Para One and Bobmo. He has been releasing tracks left, right and centre and towards the end of the year he released his second full-length album, USA. Fast forward to present day and a USA Club Mixes album has just been dropped and boy oh boy are there some bangers.
One of the stand out songs for me is Strip Steve’s superb remix of Harry. Within the first 10 seconds you are hooked by the contagious beat and if your anything like me then you won’t be able to resist a little head nod. I suggest you have a listen ASAP as the main drop is some serious “end of set” ammunition.
Another one worth checking out is the Djedjotronic and Noob remix of Love Shot. I like to think that if people from 1980’s Miami had heard this in a club they would get some serious groove on. Have a listen and judge for yourself.
Last But Not Least
The last two tracks on today’s post have been on constant repeat since I heard them and I can’t see that changing anytime soon.
The first sees the return of one of the UK’s hottest artists. Grum released his debut album Heartbeats in 2010 and received a vast amount of critical acclaim for his eclectic mix of disco, funk and big French House synths. One of the main reasons the album did so well is because every song managed to put a smile on your face and blow you away at the same time. The eagerly anticipated second album is set for release later this year, but to wet our appetite Grum has just put up a new remix he’s done for Lonsdale Boys Club. The track is called Light Me Up and compared to his older songs, there’s definitely a deeper vibe to it and it even has a slightly trancey feel at times. I had the pleasure of interviewing Grum for my final year dissertation and he genuinely knows what he’s talking about when it comes to electronic music.
Keep your eyes peeled for more Grum releases and in the mean time get your ear holes around this beauty.
Here we are, last track of the first post. It’s been fun though hasn’t it? The track I have chosen has DREAM TEAM written all over it. So here are the facts. It’s a Punks Jump Up track called Mr Overtime. It features Dave 1 from Chromeo on vocals and it’s being released on UK based label Moda. Amazing right. The remix below is by Multi Platinum producer Gigamesh. He has been tearing it up recently and his remixes are getting a lot of exposure so start buying his back-catalogue right away.
I’ll be bringing you regular updates so that you will always be in the loop with what’s hot in the world. Plus I will be introducing you to my wonderful friends over the coming weeks. Ciao for Now
Chubby x
